TAMED
IMBALANCE A mobile is a gently floating form, set in motion by external influences such as a breath of wind, constantly seeking equilibrium. For VIENNA DESIGN WEEK, designer Flora Lechner and the traditional Viennese company LOBMEYR translated this playful dance between balance and imbalance into a deconstructed crystal chandelier, symbolizing the choreography of skills involved in its creation. A key aspect of the design is the harmonious combination of metal and glass, characteristic of LOBMEYR’s meticulous craftsmanship. Typically, artisans start with a metal structure and then clad it with crystal glass. In the Lechner-LOBMEYR mobile, the two materials are interdependent, forming a symbiotic structure with moving arms and hanging counterweights. Artisans can decide individually how many crystals to string, making each piece unique. Its beauty lies in this balanced disorder, and only when it refracts light does the mobile reveal its full, tamed luxury.
